ceramic records
These ceramic records were made using a range of traditional and modern techniques.
Some are decorated using a chattering technique, which we used create rhythms on the sides of the pots. These were originally played back using a tone arm which we detached from a record player and held on its side. However, we then discovered contact microphones and we now use these at it enables us to play our ceramics with all manner of other objects. By physically making our own records and playing them on turntables we gained an understanding about not only how sound can be stored and reproduced but also a knowledge about a wide range of materials, processes and technologies.
These pieces formed part of our expanded DJ set.
