sonic bronze

We have recently been exploring the potential of combining 3D digital design and Bronze Casting.

For our work in this area we were awarded a QEST Scholarship to deepen our skills and learn about the traditional and historic craft of bell-making. Through this Scholarship we were able to train with Marcus Vergette and David Snoo Wilson, learning about the musical relationships and the complexity of notes that bells produce, including how to create natural harmonic sequences and how to control and understand the sound of a bell. We expanded our knowledge of bronze casting and traditional bell making, and under Wilson’s supervision we produced an extensive series of experimental “sonic prototypes” in bronze.

These new pieces draw upon our already existing knowledge of sonic forms as well as our experience of transforming raw material into sound.
