For this piece we produced a new series of 7 unique ceramic vessels that each produce their own sound depending on the form, size and type of clay used. These objects are played with a custom-made sequencer that controls mechanical beaters which slap and strike the ceramics to create minimalist-inspired compositions. The installation is performed live as we programme the sequencer and further manipulate the sounds of the ceramics with additional effects. These sonic patterns and sounds flow in and out of each other and create an echo chamber of polyrhythms.
This piece has been made possible through funding from ‘Help Musicians UK’ and was made in collaboration with Chris Ingram, Milly Hardy, Thomas Blackstock and Alan Burgess.
Special thanks to Strange Brew for hosting us on a 3 week residency while we put the whole thing together.
